EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Swarm of 12 Flies
Stock Number  ACS22
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Swarm of Fungus Gnats (Mycetiphilidae)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Russia
Size:  Amber piece is 1.1 inches long

This is a large swarm of flies trapped in amber. It is a grouping of Fungus Gnats (Mycetiphilidae) in Baltic Amber. There are AT LEAST 12 gnats displayed in this piece (there are probably more - we didn't examine the amber at length). The gnats have good detail and are well spaced within the amber. It is unusual to have so many insects preserved in one piece of amber. This is a collectible swarm of flies from the Baltic Coast of Russia (close-up photo is included for free).
