Name:
Mayfly (Ephemenoptera) In Baltic Amber
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Piece of amber is 1.0" X 1.3".
Here is an unbelievably rare Mayfly entombed in a large chunk of Baltic Amber. This is one of only two Mayflies in Baltic Amber that we have ever seen - and it just happens to be an immaculate specimen. Although the picture does not show the entire insect, the Mayfly is complete and preserved with excellent detail. The head, body and wings are beautifully intact - even the venation of the wings is well defined. This very unusual insect is extremely well centered in the honey-colored block of fossil resin. It is easily seen with the naked eye. This is as close as one can get to finding a dragonfly in amber. This is a very collectable piece of amber with an outstanding Mayfly inclusion. Close -up photo will be included at no cost.
