Nice True Midge Trapped in Burmese Amber
Stock Number  ACBUR715
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   True Midge (Chironomidae)
Age:  Cretaceous
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Myanmar (Burma)
Size:  Amber piece is 0.65 inches across

This is a nice insect entombed in Burmese Amber. It is a True Midge (Chironomidae) from Myanmar. Amber from this area is Cretaceous in age, meaning it is from the time of the dinosaurs! The piece of amber has been highly polished on all sides for optimal display. The insect exhibits fine detail - the head, body, wings, and long legs are all present - even the antennae are intact. The fly is well showcased in the colorful nugget of fossilized tree resin. This is a cool specimen of a Cretaceous True Midge caught in fossil ''ooze'' (large close-up photo is included for free).
