This is a very nice insect trapped in Baltic Amber. It is a beautiful Fungus Gnat (Mycetophilidae) from the Eocene Deposits of Russia. The piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusion. The head, legs, wings, and antennae of the Fungus Gnat are all wonderfully displayed. The Fungus Gnat is easily seen with the naked eye in the honey-colored piece of fossil ''ooze''. This is an excellent example of a Fungus Gnat preserved in amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
