EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   True Midge (Chironomidae)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Baltic Coast, Russia
Size:  Amber piece is 0.75 inches long

Here is an excellent insect entombed in amber. This is a fine True Midge (Chironomidae) from the Eocene amber deposits of Russia. The piece of amber has been highly polished on all sides for optimal display. The insect exhibits very fine detail - the head, body, wings, and long legs are all present - even the antennae are intact. The fly is beautifully showcased in the honey-colored piece of fossilized tree resin and is easily seen in the photo. This is a great specimen of a True Midge in fossil ''ooze'' (large close-up photo is included for free).
