EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Three Millipedes (Diplopoda)
Age:  Oligocene

This is a very rare grouping of millipedes in amber. There are three Myriapoda Millipedes (Diplopoda) trapped in this amber piece (two are pictured). Millipedes differ from Centipedes in that they have two pairs of legs on each body segment - Centipedes only have one pair. The large Millipede in this piece is obvious and has nice detail. The many legs are easily seen. The other ones are also nice and have good detail preserved. There is also a Bristletail and a Springtail trapped in the amber This is a very collectible grouping of fossilized Millipedes in Dominican Amber (small close-up photo is included for free).
