This is a beautiful insect in amber. It is a Fungus Gnat (Mycetiphilidae) from the Eocene deposits of Russia. This specimen is incredibly well-preserved in the fossilized tree resin. Each tiny feature is nicely showcased - the legs, wings, and antennae display beautifully. The Fungus Gnat is easy to see trapped within the clear amber piece. This is a wonderful fossil insect entombed in Baltic Amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
