Stock Number  ACMEX303
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Termite in Mexican Amber
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Chiapas, Mexico
Size:  Amber piece is 1.2" tall (9.9g)

This is a very large and unusual insect entombed in Mexican Amber. It is a Winged Termite from Chiapas, Mexico. This type of amber was known to the ancient Maya and Aztec civilizations. This large piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusions. The large Termite is easily seen at the top of the amber piece. There is at least one other insect trapped in the amber. This is a very rare example of a Winged Termite trapped in Mexican Amber.
