Name:   True Midge (Chironomidae)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Baltic Coast, Russia
Size:  Amber piece is 0.9 inches long

This is a very nice fossil fly in amber. It is a True Midge (Chironomidae) from the Baltic Coast of Russia. The insect exhibits very fine detail. The head, body, wings, and long legs are all present. The insect is easily seen in the honey-colored piece of amber - it can be seen with the naked eye. And the small compound eye is even preserved. This is a great specimen of a True Midge trapped in fossil ''ooze''.
