Extremely Unusual Fossil Wasp in Mexican Amber
Stock Number  ACMEX301
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Wasp (Hymenpotera)
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Chiapas, Mexico
Size:  Amber piece is 1 inch tall

This is an excellent insect entombed in Mexican Amber. It is a large Wasp (Hymenoptera) from Chiapas, Mexico. This type of amber was known to the ancient Maya and Aztec civilizations. This large piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusions. The wasp is easily seen at the bottom of the amber piece. There are at least THREE more insects trapped in the amber - two can even be seen in the close-up photo. This is a very fine example of rare insects trapped in Mexican Amber.
