Name:
Swarm of True Midges
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 1.4 inches long
This is a large swarm of flies trapped in amber. It is a mass of True Midges (Chironomidae) in Baltic Amber. There are MANY midges displayed in this piece (there are so many, we stopped counting!). The flies have good detail and are well spaced within the amber. It is unusual to have so many insects preserved in one piece of Baltic Amber, more so than Dominican Amber. This is a collectible swarm of flies from the Baltic Coast of Russia
