This is an excellent insect in Baltic Amber. It is a large Sand Fly (Psychodidae) from Russia. This type of fly is distinguished by its distinct wing venation pattern. This fly has great wings and fine overall detail. The insect is nicely displayed and easily seen in the large amber piece that also contains a few other flies. This is a super Sand Fly in trapped in Baltic amber.
