This is an excellent insect trapped in Baltic Amber. It is a large Fungus Gnat (Mycetophilidae) from the Eocene Deposits of Russia. The piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusion. The head, body, legs, wings, and antennae of the Fungus Gnat are beautifully displayed. The Fungus Gnat is easily seen entombed within the honey-colored piece of fossil ''ooze''. This is a wonderful example of a Fungus Gnat preserved in amber.
