Name:
Winged Termites (Isoptera)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 1 inch long
This is a very impressive amber fossil. It is a grouping of Winged Termites (Isoptera) from the Dominican Republic. The large Termites are intact and have great detail preserved. Their gossamer wings are beautifully showcased. Each of the Termites are easily seen with the naked eye, and are nicely spaced within the amber piece. There are also many shed Termite wings scattered about the amber piece. This is an excellent grouping of Termites trapped in amber (this specimen was recently acquired from a MAJOR fossil collection).
