This is a beautiful insect in amber. It is a distinct Fungus Gnat (Mycetiphilidae) from the Amber Deposits of Russia. This specimen is incredibly well-preserved in the fossilized tree resin. Each tiny feature is nicely showcased - the legs and wings display beautifully. Even the segmented antennae and HUGE COMPOUND EYES are prominently displayed. The Fungus Gnat is easy to see trapped within the clear amber piece. This is a wonderful fossil insect entombed in Baltic Amber (large close-up photo is included for free)...
