This is a beautiful insect in amber. It is a large Fungus Gnat (Mycetiphilidae) from the Eocene Amber Deposits of Russia. This specimen is incredibly well-preserved in the fossilized tree resin. Each tiny feature is nicely showcased. The eyes and segmented antennae are easily seen, and the legs and wings display beautifully. The Fungus Gnat is easy to see trapped within the clear amber piece. This is a wonderful fossil insect entombed in Baltic Amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
