Very Fine Pair of Fungus Gnats in Amber

Location:  Baltic Coast, Russia
Size:  Amber piece is 1.4 inches across

This is an excellent pair of insects trapped in Baltic Amber. These are Fungus Gnats (Mycetophilidae) from the Eocene Deposits of Russia. The piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusions. The heads, bodies, legs, and wings of the Fungus Gnats are beautifully displayed. The Fungus Gnats are easily seen in the honey-colored piece of fossil ''ooze''. This is a wonderful example of two Fungus Gnat entombed in amber.
