Name:
Ants (Hymenoptera), and Fungus Gnats (Mycetophilidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 1.4 inches across
Here is a large piece of polished amber containing many insects. There are at least five insects entombed in the fossil ooze - three of the insects are ants, two are fungus gnats . The golden piece of amber has been polished for optimal display. The insects exhibit fine detail and are very easily seen trapped within the beautiful chunk of fossil tree resin (only two are pictured). This is a very interesting piece of Baltic Amber with many insects entombed (large close-up photo is included for free).
