Name:
Ant (Hymenoptera)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 1.5 inches long
This is an excellent insect in amber. It is a large Ant (Hymenoptera) in Baltic Amber. This specimen is a very fine example of a fossilized ant. All six legs are well preserved, and the long antennae are even intact. The ant is trapped in a huge piece of beautiful honey-colored amber, along with a large fly (not pictured). This is a super example of an ancient Ant preserved in Baltic Amber (close-up photo is included for free).
