Name:
Long-Legged Fly Laying Eggs
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.7 inches long
This is a rare amber fossil. It is a Long-Legged Fly preserved in Dominican Amber. This specimen is extremely collectible in that the Long-Legged Fly is laying eggs! This is a very rare occurence in the fossil record. There are at least TEN intact eggs just deposited by the female Long-Legged Fly. They are easily seen at the tail end if the Fly (see close-up photo). The Fly itself has great detail. There is also a strange Ant Head trapped in the amber piece. This is a very unusual amber fossil that tells a unique story (small close-up photo is included for free).
