EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Millipede (Diplopoda, Polyxenus)
Age:  Eocene

This is a very rare inclusion in Baltic Amber. It is a spiny Millipede (Diplopoda, Polyxenidae) of the type Polyxenus sp. Spiny millipedes were rarely trapped in amber, especially Baltic Amber. This specimen has great detail - note the very fine bristles preserved on all sides of the Millipede. the 'pede displays well in the huge amber piece. This is a very unusual fossil of a Spiny Millipede in amber (a small close-up photo is included for free).
