Name:
Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 1.8 inches long!
This is an excellent Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae) entombed in Baltic Amber. The large piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusion. The head, body, long legs, and wings of the beast are clearly defined. The insect is easily seen trapped within the HUGE (almost two inches long!) piece of fossil ''ooze''. This is a very distinct example of a Long-Legged Fly preserved in a very large amber chunk (large close-up photo is included for free).
