EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Fabulous Hymenaea Leaf
Stock Number  ECVV6
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Hymenaea Leaf
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Amber Mines
Location:  Dominican Republic
Size:  Amber piece is 2.2 inches long!

This is a fantastic amber fossil. It is a large leaf from the Hymenaea protera tree. Hymenaea protera was the Dominican ''amber tree'', the tree whose sap is responsible for the majority of the amber found today. Hymenaea protera's nearest living relative is the ''algarrobo'', which is the same genus and is found mostly in the eastern part of the Dominican Republic. This amber piece has a large, detailed leaf from this ''amber tree''. The leaf has great detail and is easily seen trapped within the HUGE amber piece, along with a Beetle. This is easily the best Hymenaea protera leaf we have seen preserved in amber (hard to see how perfect it is in the photo). It is an extremely collectible amber fossil (this specimen was recently acquired from a MAJOR fossil collection).
