Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Amber Mines
Location:  Dominican Republic

Here is an excellent swarm of insects preserved in Dominican Amber from the Oligocene of Russia. This large nugget of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides for optimal display. There are two Spiders, three Wasps, two Gall Midges, two Dark Winged Fungus Gnats, a Barklouse, a Moth, and an Elongate Springtail - wow! The insects display beautifully in the large amber piece. This is a fabulous example of many different insects trapped in fossilized tree resin (small close-up photo of a spider is included for free).
