Name:
True Midge (Chironomidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Piece of amber is 1.1 inches long!
Here is an excellent insect entombed in amber. This is a fine True Midge (Chironomidae) from the Eocene amber deposits of Russia. The large piece of amber has been highly polished on all sides for optimal display. The insect exhibits very fine detail - the head, body, wings, and long legs are all present - even the antennae are intact. The fly is beautifully centered in the honey-colored piece of fossilized tree resin and is easily seen with the naked eye. This is a great specimen of a True Midge trapped in fossil ''ooze'' (large close-up photo included for free).
