Name:
Long-Legged Flies (Dolichopodidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 0.5 inches long
This is an excellent pair of Long-Legged Flies (Dolichopodidae) entombed in Baltic Amber. The heart-shaped piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusions. The heads, bodies, long legs, and wings of the beasts are clearly defined - even the huge ''bug-eyes'' are easily seen. The insects are readily seen trapped within the golden piece of fossil ''ooze''. This is a very distinct example of two Long-Legged Flies preserved in amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
