Name:
Spider and Leaf Association
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.55 inches long
Here is an excellent Spider (Araneae) preserved in Amber from the Oligocene of the Dominican Republic. This nugget of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides for optimal display. The spider is beautifully preserved and exhibits wonderful detail - the LONG legs of the spider are clearly defined. There are also two fossilized leaves preserved in the amber - it is extremely unusual to have plant and animal remains preserved in the same amber piece. This is a very fine example of a spider and leaves trapped in fossilized tree resin (small close-up photo is included for free).
