Excellent Biting Midge - Possible DNA
Stock Number  A819053

Name:   Biting Midge (Ceratopogonidae)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Baltic Coast, Russia
Size:  Amber piece is 0.6 inches long

This is a very fine blood-sucking insect in amber. It is a Biting Midge (Ceratopogonidae) from the Baltic Coast of Russia. Because it is a Biting Midge, it may have traces of blood in its stomach. This blood could contain the DNA of extinct animals (remember Jurassic Park?). Therefore, this is a very collectible insect in amber. The bug has great detail and was trapped in a classic ''flying'' pose. And there is also a True Midge trapped in the amber piece. This is a very nice example of a ''Vampire Midge'' in amber.
