Name:
Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 0.8 inches long
This is an excellent Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae) entombed in Baltic Amber. The large piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusion. The head, body, long legs, and wings of the beast are clearly defined - even the huge ''bug-eyes'' are easily seen. The insect is trapped within a golden piece of fossil ''ooze'' that also contains other inclusions. This is a very distinct example of a Long-Legged Fly preserved in amber.
