This is an excellent specimen of an insect entombed in Baltic Amber. It is a large Beetle (Coleoptera) from the Eocene Deposits of Russia. The piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusion. This Beetle is just outstanding - the head, legs, and body are all wonderfully preserved, and even the segmented antennae are easily seen. The bug has great color and contrast and is beautifully showcased in the light-colored nugget of amber. This is a remarkable insect trapped in Baltic Amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
