Name:
Diapriid Wasp (Hymenoptera), Worker Ant
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.8 inches long
This is a nice wasp trapped in amber. It is a Diapriid Wasp (Hymenoptera) preserved in this amber piece. This type of wasp is very rare in the fossil record. The bug is quite distinct and has nice detail. There is also an excellent Worker Ant caught is the fossil ooze. The both insects are easily seen in the clear amber nugget. This is a nice example of this unusual wasp and a Worker Ant entombed in Dominican Amber (small close-up photo is included for free).
