Name:
Fungus Gnat (Mycetophilidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Piece of amber is 0.45 inches long
This is a nice insect entombed in Baltic Amber. It is a Fungus Gnat (Mycetophilidae) from the Eocene deposits of Russia. The piece of amber has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusion. The head, body, extremely long legs, and gossamer wings of the insect are clearly defined. The insect is easily seen in the light-yellow piece of fossilized tree resin. This is an excellent specimen of a Fungus Gnat trapped in fossil ''ooze''.
