Excellent Gall Midge In Dominican Amber
Stock Number  F1231042
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Gall Midge (Cecidomyiidae)
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Amber Mines
Location:  Dominican Republic
Size:  Piece of amber is 0.5" long

Here is an excellent insect entombed in Oligocene amber. This is an unusual Gall Midge (Cecidomyiidae) from the Amber Mines of the Dominican Republic. The piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusion. The insect is beautifully posed in the chunk of amber. The head, body, legs, and wings are wonderfully displayed. The insect can be easily seen in the light honey-colored piece of fossil sap. This is a very nice example of a Gall Midge entombed in amber from the Dominican Republic (small close-up photo included for free).
