Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 1.3 inches across
This is an excellent pair of insects entrapped in Baltic Amber. These are Fungus Gnats (Mycetophilidae) from the Eocene Deposits of Russia. The piece of fossilized tree resin has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the insect inclusions. The heads, bodies, legs, and wings of the Fungus Gnats are beautifully displayed. The Fungus Gnats are easily seen with the naked eye in the honey-colored piece of fossil ''ooze''. This is a wonderful example of a double Fungus Gnat preserved in amber.
