Name:
Caddisfly (Trichoptera)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.6 inches long
Here is a highly uncommon Caddisfly (Trichoptera) entombed in Dominican Amber. Caddisflies are relatively large insects and can usually escape being trapped in the sticky sap. These insects are quite rare from the Dominican Republic - they are much more common in Baltic Amber. This Caddisfly is very well preserved and exhibits wonderful detail - every feature is beautifully showcased. The Caddisfly is easily seen in the cognac-colored piece of fossil ''ooze''. This is a very collectible example of a textbook Caddisfly in Dominican Amber (large close-up photo of Caddisfly is included for free).
