This is an unusual set of insects in amber. It is a pair of Male Winged Ants (Hymenoptera; Formicidae) from the Baltic Coast of Russia. These large ants are complete and have great detail - the long legs, veined wings, and antennae are all extended, making for an aesthetic display. The Winged Ants are easily seen in the large, honey-colored amber piece. This is a beautiful example of Winged Ants in fossil amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
