Swarm of Over a Dozen Fungus Gnats
Stock Number  ACS30

Name:   Swarm of Fungus Gnats (Mycetiphilidae)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Baltic Coast, Russia
Size:  Amber piece is 0.7 inches long

This is a large swarm of flies trapped in amber. It is a mass of Fungus Gnats (Mycetiphilidae) in Baltic Amber. There are AT LEAST 12 gnats displayed in this piece (there are probably more - we stopped counting at twelve). The gnats have good detail and are well spaced within the amber. It is unusual to have so many insects preserved in one piece of Baltic Amber, more so than Dominican Amber. This is a collectible swarm of flies from the Baltic Coast of Russia (large close-up photo is included for free).
