This is an excellent Parasitic Mite (Acari) trapped in Baltic Amber from the Eocene Deposits of Russia. Mites and ticks suck life juices from their hosts. This specimen has great detail - the long appendages are nicely showcased. The spiny, hair-like projections on the legs are even preserved - yuck! The Mite is easily seen in the honey-colored amber nugget. This is a grotesque organism entombed in Baltic Amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
