Name:
Fungus Gnats (Mycetophilidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is almost 1 inch long
This is an excellent swarm of fossil insects from Russia. There are three large Fungus Gnats (Mycetophilidae) entombed in the amber piece. The gnats all have good detail - their features are easily seen. The bugs are nicely spaced and quite obvious in the large amber piece. This is a great swarm of fossil insects trapped in Baltic Amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
