Wasp (Hymenoptera)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 0.75 inches long
This is a very nice insect in Baltic Amber. It is a large Wasp (Hymenoptera) from Russia. Wasps are very uncommon in Baltic Amber and usually display poorly. This specimen exhibits excellent detail - the head, body, legs, and long antennae are all intact. The wasp is nicely centered and easily seen in the large, honey-colored nugget of amber. This is a wonderful fossil wasp in trapped Baltic Amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
