Bark Louse (Psocoptera)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Piece of amber is 0.5 inches across
This is an unusual insect in Dominican Amber. It is an excellent Bark Louse (Psocoptera) from the Amber Mines of the Dominican Republic. This specimen has great detail, showing the body, legs, and antennae - even the venation of the wings is wonderfully displayed. The louse is nicely showcased and easily seen in the polished piece of golden-yellow amber. This is a very beautiful insect trapped in fossil ooze (small close-up photo is included for free).
