Insects Trapped in Spider Web
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.9 inches long
This is a very rare amber fossil. It is a fossilized Spider web with insects trapped in the web! Spider webs are occasionally found in amber, but it is extremely rare to find a spider web with insects caught within! This amber specimen has a Gall Midge and a Eulophid Wasp stuck in the spider's web. Both insects and the web are easily seen in the large, honey-colored amber nugget. There is also another Eulophid Wasp and a Moth Fly preserved in the amber. This is an extremely rare and collectible amber fossil that tells a unique story (small close-up photo is included for free).
