Name:
Swarm of Insects and Flowers
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.95" X 1.1"
This is an amazing swarm of insects in amber. This specimen was found in the famous Amber Mines of the Dominican Republic. There are 13 identifiable insects and flowers trapped in this amber nugget! There are three Craneflies, of which the long legs are easily seen in the amber piece. There are four Scuttle Flies, a Gall Midge, and a Worker Ant entombed in the amber. And there are even three Flowers and an unopened Flower bud preserved with the insects. One look at the close-up of the amber piece and you can see how densely packed with inclusions it is. This is an incredible assemblage of many different organisms, plants and animals, grouped together for eternity (two different close-up photos are included for free).
