This is an unusual insect in amber. It is a Male Winged Ant (Hymenoptera; Formicidae) from the Baltic Coast of Russia. This large specimen is complete and has great detail. The long legs, veined wings, and antennae are all extended, making for an aesthetic display. The Winged Ant is easily seen in the honey-colored amber piece, which also includes an entombed fly. This is a beautiful example of a Winged Ant in fossil amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
