Name:
Gall Midges (Cecidomyiidae)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.75 inches long
This is a nice amber fossil. It is a trio of Gall Midges preserved in Dominican Amber. The midges were trapped in the amber in the aesthetic ''wings up'' pose. The midges have good detail showing many fine features. The flies are seen scattered about the rectangular amber piece. This is a very nice amber fossil with three insects entombed (close-up photo of one Gall Midge included for free).
