Name:
Caddisfly (Trichoptera) and others
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 1.0 inches long
Here is a highly uncommon Caddisfly (Trichoptera) entombed in Dominican Amber. Caddisflies are relatively large insects and can usually escape being trapped in the sticky sap. These insects are quite rare from the Dominican Republic - they are much more common in Baltic Amber. This Caddisfly is very well preserved and exhibits wonderful detail - every feature is beautifully showcased. The Caddisfly is easily seen in the cognac-colored piece of fossil ''ooze''. The amber piece also contains many other insects (2 Gall Gnats and 5 Moth Flies). This is a very collectible example of a textbook Caddisfly and other insects in the same piece of amber (small close-up photo of Caddisfly is included for free).
