EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Male Winged Ant (Hymenoptera)
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Amber Mines
Location:  Dominican Republic
Size:  Amber piece is 1.1 inches long

This is a very large insect in amber. It is a Male Winged Ant (Hymenoptera) from the Dominican Republic. This specimen extremely detailed - the wings, legs, and antennae are all beautifully showcased. There is also a primitive fly and a Platygasterid Wasp preserved in the piece. The insects are easily seen trapped within the large, honey-colored amber nugget. This is an excellent Winged Ant entombed in Dominican Amber (small close-up photo is included for free).
