Moth (Lepidoptera)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 2.15 inches long
This is a very unusual insect in Baltic Amber. It is a large Moth (Lepidoptera) from Russia. This specimen has nice detail - the venation of the wings and the large compound eyes are beautifully preserved. The moth is easily seen in the HUGE amber piece (over two inches long!). This is a fine example of a fossil Moth in Baltic Amber (large close-up photo of Moth and compound eye is included for free).
