Name:
Millipede (Diplopoda)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.6 inches long
This is an excellent example of an unusual fossil. It is a complete Millipede (Diplopoda) fossilized in Dominican Amber. This specimen has great detail - the segmented body is very well preserved, and the myriad of legs is fully intact. There is even a complete fly entombed in the amber. Under magnification, both the millipede and the fly are easily seen trapped within the large piece of ''fossil ooze''. This is a very collectible Millipede fossil from the Amber Mines of the Dominican Republic (small close-up photo is included for free).
