This is a beautiful insect in amber. It is a Fungus Gnat (Mycetiphilidae) from the Eocene deposits of Russia. This specimen is incredibly well-preserved in the fossilized tree resin. Each tiny feature is nicely showcased. The eyes and segmented antennae are easily seen, and the legs and wings display beautifully. Even the individual lenses of the large eyes are intact! Also, the Fungus Gnat is easy to see within the clear amber piece. This is a wonderful insect entombed in Baltic Amber (large close-up photo is included for free).
